a day in the life as an intern…

Photo on 2011-08-09 at 14.23 #4

a typical day for me involves…
if i am being completely honest, there is no such thing as a typical day for me here at mary helen! a typical day interning here can be anything from posting to social media, writing a blog post, trend forecasting, fabric sourcing, sewing, drawing flats or maybe pulling together a look of the week! my favorite part about interning here is that everyday i get to explore my talents in all different areas of the company!

this was my dream internship job because…
i am constantly being inspired by every area of this company. avidly working in such close quarters with mary, our executive creative director has allowed me to experience so many hands on opportunities! mary has been an amazing role model to me as a businesswoman and designer!

the most important thing I’ve learned so far… is to stay focused and to be a self-starter! it is so important to make sure that you are always giving each project your full attention so that you never miss a beat. on another note you have to remember that there is always something to be done. when you realize that you can learn to anticipate the needs of all of those around you.

and the most fun thing I’ve done so far…
i recently had the opportunity of venturing into sales where I compiled a sales plan to follow out with a list of target boutiques. in my sales plan i created our company’s brand description and mission statement, wrote emails to send to the boutiques, and followed up with phone calls to schedule appointments. this past friday was my very first sales pitch to a boutique in columbus. i am very proud to say that they will be picking up our clothing line this spring 2014! there is no better feeling than successfully following through with a sales plan you created and i am thankful to the brand for allowing me this opportunity!

the best thing about being an intern here…
getting to work alongside our executive creative director, mary. it has been so entertaining and motivating to hear all of her stories from every area of the business since she first began in 2012. she is so passionate about this company and always willing to give friendly advice and share her previous experiences.
